The Low Temperature Systems Department (DSBT) conducts research and development activities in cryotechnology, primarily focusing on cryogenics for large scientific instruments, space cryogenics, and cryogenics for laser targets. The skills developed are used for instrumental developments in conjunction with other IRIG programs and its partners, as well as for the study of turbulence in cryogenic fluids. In addition, the DSBT manages the CEA Grenoble's helium liquefiers and supplies cryogenic fluids and nitrogen to the latter.
